Office of the Sheriff seeks individuals for a challenging law enforcement career. No previous experience required; recruits attend a POST-approved academy for 26 weeks and, upon successful completion, are sworn in as Peace Officers and promoted to Deputy Sheriff.

The Office of the Sheriff provides patrol services across the county, with numerous specialized units and a large professional team offering career advancement opportunities.

Qualifications

• License required: valid California Motor Vehicle Operators License; out-of-state license accepted during application.
• Education: US high school diploma, GED, or accredited equivalent; college degree acceptable.
• Citizenship: US citizen or permanent resident eligible for citizenship.
• Age: must be 21 years at appointment.
• Physical: health standards as prescribed by County Medical Consultant.
• Vision: 20/20 uncorrected, 20/30 corrected.
• Hearing: no more than 25 dB loss in key frequencies.
• Background: thorough background investigation, polygraph, medical, and psychological screening.

Responsibilities

• Attend POST-approved police academy (26 weeks) with intensive academics and fitness.
• Graduate academy, be sworn in as Peace Officer and promoted to Deputy Sheriff.
• Pursue opportunities in patrol, investigations, and specialized assignments.
• Support county with community safety and enforcement duties.
