Job summary

Ramsey County is hiring Deputy Sheriffs in the Sheriff’s Office to perform patrol, investigation and custody duties. Eligibility requires POST license or POST eligibility by December 31, 2026.

The position supports detentions, court security, civil process, and investigations across Ramsey County. Successful applicants will progress through a competitive process including background checks, medical evaluation, and pre-employment testing.

Qualifications

• Must meet academic and skills course requirements for state licensure which require successful completion of a two-year college program in law enforcement and an eight-week skills course, or equivalent training/experience recognized by POST.
• Licensure as a Peace Officer by the Minnesota Board of POST and a valid driver’s license.
• Submit POST license or POST eligibility letter by December 31, 2026 to be considered.

Responsibilities

• Represent the Office of the Sheriff through interactions with staff and the public with professionalism and integrity.
• Provide law enforcement services in detention, courts, civil process/warrants, and patrol/investigations.
• Maintain order and security in detention facilities and courtrooms; transport prisoners as needed.
• Conduct investigations, collect evidence, prepare reports, and testify when required.
• Complete required background checks and physical evaluations as part of the conditional offer process.

Two-year college program in law enforcement and an eight-week skills course
