Job summary

Boston Public Schools is seeking a Deputy Director of Safety Services to lead the day-to-day safety operations across the district. You will supervise safety personnel, support emergency preparedness, and build collaborative relationships with school leaders, City agencies, and community partners.

The role reports to the Executive Director of Safety, Security, and School Crisis Response and emphasizes equity, restorative approaches, prevention, student belonging, and culturally responsive

Qualifications

• Senior operational leadership experience in safety or security.
• Experience supervising personnel and coordinating across multiple sites.
• Ability to partner with school leaders, families, and community partners.

Responsibilities

• Direct the daily operations of Safety Services across BPS schools, offices, programs, events, and transportation settings.
• Serve as Executive Director designee when assigned and represent Safety Services in district meetings and interagency coordination.
• Supervise, coach, evaluate, schedule, and discipline safety staff per CBAs, city policies, and procedures.
• Establish staffing plans and deployment protocols for coverage during arrival, dismissal, events, and incidents.
• Ensure safety staff maintain a visible, prevention-focused presence and connect with students, staff, families, and partners.
• Collaborate with school leaders to develop building-specific safety plans and emergency procedures.
• Coordinate with the Office of Emergency Management on drills, risk assessments, and recovery planning.
• Lead responses to significant incidents and oversee incident command and real-time communications.
• Ensure compliant documentation of incidents, investigations, and required notifications.
• Assist in developing budgets, procurement plans, and resources for effective safety operations.
• Oversee readiness and use of safety equipment, communications systems, and incident reporting.
• Prepare briefings and recommendations for the Superintendent and City leadership.
