Job summary

The City of Boston Assessing Department seeks a Deputy of Operations to assist the Director in overseeing day-to-day management and operations of key departmental units, planning, coordinating, and administering projects, overseeing staff performance, and reviewing policies for efficiency of operations. Represents the department as liaison in the Director’s absence.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of professional experience in administration and business management, finance, or related areas.
• Four (4) years must have been in a supervisory capacity.
• A Master’s degree in business administration, public administration, or an equivalent may be substituted for three (3) years of this experience.
• A Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or an equivalent may be substituted for two (2) years of this experience.
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated leadership and management skills required.
• Knowledge of office operations, budgets, finance, organizational dynamics, and computer and other technology preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, BAIS Financials, and Hyperion Planning is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage departmental units and supervise staff.
• Oversee the Fiscal Operations Unit, Support Services Unit, Technical Services Unit, Information System Unit, and their respective functions.
• Responsible for planning and coordinating the budget process.
• Oversee management of fiscal activities.
• Coordinate and administer a wide array of complex managerial and administrative projects regarding ongoing departmental operational needs, organizational structure, facility management, and support services.
• Perform related work as required by the department.
