Job summary

City of Boston's Assessing Department seeks a Deputy Director to lead valuation operations for real estate and personal property, oversee abatement strategies, and ensure accurate property tax administration.

The role requires strong supervision, data analysis, project management, and excellent communication skills; you will train staff, coordinate with boards, and represent the department at public events. Boston residency is required.

Qualifications

• 4+ years in assessment administration or related field in a large jurisdiction; 2+ years supervisory experience
• Bachelor's degree in business/public administration or related field preferred
• Mass. Accredited Assessor, CMA, or CAE designation preferred
• Thorough knowledge of valuation methodology and CAMA systems preferred
• Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to train and supervise staff

Responsibilities

• Supervises collection, maintenance, and reporting of real estate market data for commercial purposes
• Develops valuation standards for commercial property
• Selects, trains, and supervises staff
• Conducts and directs administrative projects involving valuation operations
• Assists in strategies for abatement liability reduction
• Represents the department in interdepartmental meetings and public events
