Job summary

SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in New York seeks a full-time Coordinator of Field Services / Deputy Director of Design and Construction to lead architectural engineering design services, field troubleshooting, and state/local code interpretation for campus facilities.

You will prepare design contract documents, help develop plans for major alterations and system modifications, and manage project managers, budgets, and feasibility studies while prioritizing sustainable, cost-efficient

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Architecture and/or Engineering.
• 10 to 15 years of work experience in design and construction, preferably in hospital and/or academic environments.
• New York State Code Enforcement Officer certification and/or Licensed Professional. If the successful incumbent does not have certification, they must obtain certification within one (1) year of employment start date.
• Outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Microsoft Project, familiarity with facilities management software, and AutoCAD.
• Or, a satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Responsibilities

• Provide architectural engineering design services and field troubleshooting; interpret state and local codes for campus facilities.
• Prepare design contract documents such as drawings, specifications, and equipment selections for construction and renovation projects.
• Work with the Director of Design and Construction to develop departmental plans for major alterations and system modifications and provide program requirements and preliminary designs for outside consultants.
• Recommend alterations and assist with economic analysis and feasibility studies when required.
• Manage supervisory managers who act as facilities project managers involved in day-to-day planning and design.
• Provide leadership, quality assessment, and budgeting reviews for renovations or new construction.
• Prepare cost estimates for architectural, electrical, HVAC, plumbing work for capital budgets and contracts.
• Act as construction superintendent and sign off on contract comments across disciplines.
• Support senior managers and supervise architectural and engineering staff.
• Attend job meetings and represent the Director of Design and Construction when necessary.
• Assist the Director of Design and Construction on all projects, supervising draftspeople, designers, or estimators as required.
• Perform special activities as directed and act in the Director's absence when required.
