Job summary

City of New York’s Department of Transportation seeks a Deputy Director to oversee Bus Stop Management (BSM) citywide. You will supervise staff, plan and monitor bus stop projects, and manage signage, permits, and related infrastructure tasks to support Vision Zero goals.

Collaborating with DOT units, MTA, the Mayor’s Office, and stakeholders, you’ll coordinate with contractors and manage budgets, procurement, and accessibility initiatives while ensuring timely delivery.

Qualifications

• Master's in transportation or related field, or Bachelor's in engineering with 1 year relevant experience.
• Bachelor's in engineering with 1 year experience in roadway/traffic studies or area-wide programs.
• Bachelor's with 2 years experience in roadway transportation/traffic studies.
• Associate degree/60 credits with 4 years experience in roadway transportation/traffic studies.
• High school diploma with 6 years relevant experience in transportation/traffic roles.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations of the Bus Stop Management unit.
• Plan, design, installation, regulation and maintenance of bus stops, signs, and related infrastructure.
• Supervise staff and coordinate with DOT divisions, agencies, unions, and stakeholders.
• Assist with administration, procurement, budgeting, and oversight of citywide bus stop contracts.

Education

Master's degree in transportation engineering, mathematics, urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, urban studies, or related physical and social science fields

Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college and one year of full-time satisfactory experience

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and two years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in the above

Associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of full-time satisfactory experience

Four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of full-time satisfactory experience
