Job summary

Northrop Grumman in San Diego seeks a Department Manager, Engineering M3 to lead the AISR&T Systems organization. This role oversees a large engineering team, balancing people leadership with technical oversight to enable program success.

You will drive staffing, succession planning, and performance management while coordinating with program leadership, HR, and functional peers to align capabilities with needs, in a demanding, cost-conscious environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline with 9 years of related engineering experience OR Master’s degree in STEM with 7 years of related engineering experience.
• Minimum 5 years of leadership experience, including first-level or higher people management leadership.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver complex technical solutions within cost and schedule constraints.
• Experience with workforce and resource planning, including forecasting staffing needs and end-to-end hiring decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead all aspects of personnel management including workforce planning, hiring, retention, engagement, redeployment, and succession.
• Partner with program leadership, HR, and functional peers to align talent to current and future program needs.
• Support staffing for section managers and senior technical roles, including requisition development, interviewing, onboarding, and mentoring.
• Foster a culture of engagement, collaboration, accountability, and belonging by modeling Northrop Grumman leadership behaviors.
• Conduct performance management activities including goal setting, quarterly connections, and development planning.
• Drive day-to-day execution of departmental activities in support of program objectives.
• Serve as Delegation of Authority (DOA) in the absence of the Department Manager as required.
• Ensure consistent application of engineering processes and best practices; partner across functions for cross-discipline integration.
• Provide engineering leadership oversight for RCCA, SETR events, and related reviews.
