State of Michigan's Department of Treasury seeks a Departmental Technician to support the Business Taxes Unit with problem solving and attention to detail. The Departmental Technician 7-10 position serves as a technical resource for the Business Taxes Unit and will provide a full range of technical assistance for the area, including but not limited to Business Registration, Corporate Income Tax, Flow-Through Entity Tax, Michigan Business Tax, Partnership Audit Adjustment, and Michigan Treasury Online. Responsibilities of the position include documentation of processes and procedures; recommendation of efficiency improvements relating to standard methods of operations including training; collaboration with other Treasury departments/divisions; performance of complex queries; lead and/or participate in special projects; and assist supervisors and front-line staff with resolution of complex tax issues.
Education typically acquired through completion of high school.
One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service.
One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 8-level in state service.
OR
One year of experience as a technician or paraprofessional equivalent to the entry level in state service.
One year of experience as a supervisor of administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.
OR
One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.
OR
Two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate level in state service.
Two years of experience as a supervisor of administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.
OR
Two years of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.
OR
Three years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the experienced level in state service.
Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Possession of a bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Possession of a bachelor’s degree and one year of job-related experience may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Possession of a bachelor’s degree and one year of professional experience may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Note: A position is considered professional if the job requires a bachelor's degree. Qualifying 'professional experience' is counted post bachelor's degree.

Work must be performed in the state of Michigan. To perform the duties and responsibilities of this position, all work must be performed in Michigan. If you currently reside outside of the State of Michigan, you must commute to Michigan to perform the responsibilities and duties of this position at your official work location.
Remote Work. To perform the duties and responsibilities of this position, all work must be performed in Michigan. If you are a State of Michigan resident, this position is eligible for remote work up to five days per week. Please note that occasional onsite work will be required. Additionally, the selected candidate must have a secure, safe and appropriate designated workspace that allows privacy and prevents distractions while performing the duties of this position, as well as secure and sufficient internet access of commercial cable or wireless broadband with minimum speeds of 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload. Remote Work approval is at the discretion of the appointing authority and is subject to change and can be ended at any time for any reason. Please note that remote work is not available if you reside outside of the State of Michigan.
