VCA Encina Veterinary Medical Center (Walnut Creek, CA) is searching for a dedicated candidate with a positive attitude and a passion for providing top-tier customer service with a focus on patient care. This position involves working alongside the DVM during scheduled appointments. The department coordinator's responsibilities include rooming clients and patients, presenting treatment plans, filling prescriptions, and addressing client questions between exams and visits. The ability to multi-task is essential. The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of experience in the veterinary field as a Client Service Representative or a similar role.

As a general practice, multi-specialty, and emergency veterinary hospital, our community relies on us to care for their pets during chronic and emergency situations – 24/7. Our specialties include Internal Medicine, Dentistry, Oncology, Surgery, and Emergency/Critical Care. Our facility features an in-house lab, digital radiographs, ultrasound, CT scanner, in-house pharmacy, surgical suite, and ICU. We pride ourselves on our dedicated and compassionate staff, including assistants, technicians, and interns. We work collaboratively to ensure each patient receives the best veterinary care and each client has an excellent experience. As a teaching hospital, we provide a dynamic learning environment and a rewarding caseload.

ABOUT THE POSITION: DOCTOR’S ASSISTANT

We are seeking someone with animal handling and customer service experience to join our busy, state-of-the-art hospital as a Doctor’s Assistant. Shifts include daytime, evening, weekdays, weekends, and holidays, with a team-oriented schedule.

Preferred candidates will have 2-3 years of current veterinary hospital experience, especially in emergency or specialty medicine, though this is not mandatory. Customer service experience is also valued.

Your role on the Client Care Team as a Doctor’s Assistant will include, but is not limited to: answering phones, scheduling appointments, checking clients in and out, discussing pets and treatments with clients, creating and managing estimates, rooming clients and patients, recording pet temperature and weight, facilitating communication between doctors and clients, and accurately filling medications.

Both full-time and part-time positions are available. Shifts typically last 8-10 hours and include weekends. After 30 days, employees are eligible for benefits such as health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k), uniform and CE allowances, vacation, holiday pay, and veterinary discounts. Compensation is negotiable based on experience, education, and credentials, ranging from $24 to $25 per hour.
