Job summary

CommWell Health is seeking a dedicated Dental Assistant to join a rural health team delivering compassionate, patient-centered care. You will prepare patients for exams, assist the dentist, and ensure sterility and OSHA-compliant operation of rooms and equipment.

You'll support patient education, perform delegated clinical tasks, manage supplies, and participate in ongoing training and workshops to support underserved populations.

Qualifications

  • Required certifications: BLS, radiography, dental office medical emergencies and dental assistant licensure.
  • Current North Carolina driver’s license required for site access and patient transport.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for dental exams, obtain medical histories, take radiographs, assist dentist during procedures.
  • Sterilize instruments, maintain operatories and lab areas per OSHA and infection control standards.
  • Educate patients on oral care, perform sealants, polishing and impressions as delegated.
  • Manage supplies, orders, equipment maintenance, lab duties and emergency checks.
  • Assist and train new staff; participate in continuing education and workshops.

Job description

What You’ll Do
  • Prepare patients for dental exams, take medical histories, radiographs, and assist the dentist during treatment.
  • Maintain and sterilize instruments, operatories, and lab areas while ensuring compliance with OSHA and infection control standards.
  • Support patient self-management goals, provide oral hygiene education, and perform delegated clinical tasks such as sealants, polishing, and impressions.
  • Manage supplies, purchase orders, and perform equipment maintenance, lab duties, and emergency equipment checks.
  • Assist team members, train new assistants, and participate in continuing education and workshops.
What We’re Looking For

Required:

  • BLS Certificate from American Red Cross or American Heart Association )
  • Radiography (X-Ray) Certification
  • Medical Emergencies (Dental Office Certification)
  • Dental Assistant Certification
  • Current NC Driver’s License
Preferred:
  • Coronal Polishing Certification
  • Dental Assistant Program Diploma
  • One (1) year of clinical experience in a primary care, community health, or outpatient setting
  • Experience with underserved or rural populations
  • Familiarity with team-based care or PCMH/PCHH models
