Job summary

CommWell Health in rural North Carolina seeks a Dental Assistant to join a mission-driven team delivering compassionate, patient-centered care close to home.

You will prepare patients for exams, assist the dentist, and maintain sterile conditions while supporting sealants, polishing, and impressions. You will help manage supplies and participate in ongoing education within a community-focused practice.

Qualifications

• BLS certificate from ARC or AHA required.
• Radiography (X-Ray) certification required.
• Dental office medical emergencies certification required.
• Dental assistant certification required.
• Current NC driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for dental exams, take histories, radiographs and assist the dentist.
• Sterilize instruments, operatories and lab areas per OSHA infection control standards.
• Provide oral hygiene education and assist with sealants, polishing and impressions.
• Manage supplies, purchase orders, equipment maintenance and lab duties.
• Assist team members, train new assistants and participate in continuing education.

What You’ll Do

• Prepare patients for dental exams, take medical histories, radiographs, and assist the dentist during treatment.
• Maintain and sterilize instruments, operatories, and lab areas while ensuring compliance with OSHA and infection control standards.
• Support patient self-management goals, provide oral hygiene education, and perform delegated clinical tasks such as sealants, polishing, and impressions.
• Manage supplies, purchase orders, and perform equipment maintenance, lab duties, and emergency equipment checks.
• Assist team members, train new assistants, and participate in continuing education and workshops.

What We’re Looking For

Required:

• BLS Certificate from American Red Cross or American Heart Association )
• Radiography (X-Ray) Certification
• Medical Emergencies (Dental Office Certification)
• Dental Assistant Certification
• Current NC Driver’s License

Preferred:

• Coronal Polishing Certification
• Dental Assistant Program Diploma
• One (1) year of clinical experience in a primary care, community health, or outpatient setting
• Experience with underserved or rural populations
• Familiarity with team-based care or PCMH/PCHH models
