Job summary

The Brattleboro Food Co-op is seeking a Food Services Manager to strategize and oversee the deli counter and kitchen, ensuring safety, sales, margins, labor, and exceptional customer service. You will lead the Deli team, develop menus seasonally, and coordinate with other departments.

This role reports to the Food Services Director, requires ServSafe certification, several years in supervisory roles in food service, and a dedication to community values and high standards.

Qualifications

• ServSafe certified in safe food handling.
• Five years’ experience in a supervisory role in food service.
• Five years’ experience in a customer service role.
• High school diploma or related education.
• Fluent in English speaking and writing; other languages a plus.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule including holidays, nights and weekends.
• Strong knowledge of dietary needs and preferences (vegan, gluten-free, etc.).
• Great communication skills, including ability to motivate others.
• Computer skills; proficient with inventory software, word processing and spreadsheet software.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs., stand for 8–10 hours.

Responsibilities

• Ensure department operates in compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Provide prompt, friendly, helpful customer service by all staff.
• Develop and manage budget for labor and expenses to meet performance objectives.
• Develop menus seasonally to expand sales and reflect varied diets.
• Oversee purchasing of items for resale (retail products, ingredients, supplies).
• Ensure maintenance of all equipment and proper storage/labeling procedures.
• Coordinate work with other departments to meet Deli objectives.
• Develop catering program and coordinate events.
• Hire qualified applicants and provide on-the-job training.
• Organize Deli management/supervisor meetings and regular staff meetings.
