DELI CLERK

PURPOSE STATEMENT: To maximize sales and profit in the Deli Department through courteous customer service.

SIGNIFICANT JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Greet all customers, respond to questions/requests, and explain store policies courteously.
2. Wrap, package, and sell products such as sandwiches, pizza, salads, sliced fruits, vegetables, meats, cheese, desserts, party trays, garnishes, samples, and fried foods.
3. Process customer purchases accurately using electronic cash registers, scanners, and scales.
4. Review the communication board daily for updates and follow guidelines for sampling and announcements.
5. Prepare and organize the cooler/freezer/preparation area for receipt of merchandise, verify deliveries, inspect for damage, and code-date items.
6. Adhere to health codes and regulations; clean the department thoroughly.
7. Transport cases to the sales floor or storage areas, open cases, and stock products in designated areas, ensuring proper rotation and freshness.
8. Ensure safety by following store safety rules and reporting hazards immediately. Remove broken containers and packing materials promptly.
9. Operate equipment safely, including balers, slicers, scales, fryers, and others (must be 18+ for certain equipment).
10. Evaluate product quality, move damaged or unsalable items for reprocessing or markdowns.
11. Monitor case and cooler temperatures four times daily and record readings.
12. Report out-of-stock conditions to the manager.
13. Stock and replenish display cases and counters throughout the store.
14. Perform additional tasks as assigned to ensure excellent customer service during peak times.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

1. Basic math skills and ability to count.
2. Ability to give and receive complex verbal instructions.
3. Stable work and educational history.
4. Ability to read and write English, including instructions, labels, and reports.
5. Judgment in merchandise placement and display preparation.
6. Ability to open cases and stock without damaging products.
7. Ability to price and label products clearly.
8. Good interpersonal communication skills.

PREFERRED:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Prior related experience.
3. Experience operating equipment like slicers, balers, fryers, etc. (must be 18+ for certain equipment).

TASKS OF THE JOB

This position generally requires:

1. Mobility to perform receiving, stocking, and display setup within 100 yards.

• Work on tile or concrete for up to 8 hours.

1. Lift up to 50 lbs. from 6 inches to 84 inches overhead or onto storage racks.
2. Move up to 50 lbs. over 15 yards.
3. Handle signage, open cases, and remove debris.
4. Reach and handle products at various heights.
5. Handle cash, vouchers, and store supplies.
6. Use and respond to equipment and system signals.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Inside work with temperature and humidity variations from equipment and storage areas.
