DELI CLERK
PURPOSE STATEMENT

To maximize sales and profit in the Deli Department through courteous customer service.

Significant Job Responsibilities
  1. Greet customers, respond to questions, and explain store policies courteously.
  2. Wrap, package, and sell products such as sandwiches, pizza, salads, sliced fruits, vegetables, meats, cheese, desserts, party trays, garnishes, samples, and fried foods.
  3. Process customer purchases accurately using electronic equipment.
  4. Review the Communication Board daily for updates and follow posted guidelines.
  5. Prepare and organize the cooler/freezer area for receipt of merchandise, unload trucks, verify deliveries, inspect for damage and quality, and code-date items.
  6. Adhere to health codes and clean the department regularly.
  7. Transport cases and stock the display and storage areas, checking for freshness and proper placement.
  8. Ensure safety by following store rules and reporting hazards.
  9. Operate equipment such as balers, slicers, scales, and fryers (must be 18+ for certain equipment).
  10. Evaluate product quality, handle damaged or unsalable items, and perform markdowns as needed.
  11. Monitor temperatures and report out-of-stock conditions.
  12. Stock and restock cases and display areas throughout the store.
  13. Perform additional tasks as assigned during peak periods.
Qualifications
REQUIRED:
  • Basic math skills and ability to count.
  • Ability to understand and give/receive complex instructions.
  • Stable work and educational history.
  • Proficiency in reading and writing English.
  • Judgment skills for product placement and customer interaction.
  • Ability to open cases and label products clearly.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Related work experience.
  • Experience operating equipment like slicers, fryers, and scales (must be 18+ for certain equipment).
Tasks of the Job

This position requires mobility, lifting up to 50 lbs., reaching, climbing, and handling cash transactions, with a maximum of 8 hours of standing on tile or concrete. Safety and awareness of surroundings are essential.

Work Environment

Indoor work with temperature variations, dust, and humidity from equipment and storage areas.
