Job summary

Blarney Castle in Michigan is seeking a part-time deli associate to accurately receive and prepare deli foods, serve customers politely, and help maintain clean, organized food prep and display areas.

This role requires Serv-Safe adherence, basic math skills, and strong communication to work effectively in a team, with responsibilities on-site and occasional outdoor tasks as needed.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Accurately receive and prepare deli food orders following Serv-Safe, portion, and recipe standards.
• Serve customers in a courteous, pleasant and professional manner.
• Clean assigned areas, including food preparation, storage, cooking equipment, floors, refrigerators, freezers, meat cases, and other equipment.
• Maintains accurate and timely inventory and quality data, including checking in new stock, recording inventory usage and spoilage, scrap or waste, and temperature logs.
• Assists in maintaining store areas, equipment, and general inventory as needed.
• Perform all work on-site at assigned store location.
• Follows company policies and procedures. Complete training within established deadlines.
• Other duties as assigned.

JOB PURPOSE

This position contributes to Blarney Castle's success by ensuring total customer dedication in efficiently servicing our customers. Works as part of a team to achieve store objectives. Follows all safety and operating procedures and adheres to fresh food handling guidelines and standards. Ensures a welcoming environment that surprises and delights our customers in full compliance with company standards and state and federal laws.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. High school diploma or GED is required; candidates without degrees who have relevant retail experience and a good work record will be given consideration.
2. Previous Serv-Safe certification helpful.
3. Basic math skills and the ability to calculate change, weights and inventory levels.
4. Ability to read, write, understand and apply instructions and training materials.
5. Interpersonal communication and problem solving skills to customer service standards.
6. Demonstrated ability to integrate and work effectively in a team environment.
7. Age 18 or older due to equipment operation requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

1. Accurately receive and prepare deli food orders following Serv-Safe, portion, and recipe standards.
2. Serve customers in a courteous, pleasant and professional manner.
3. Clean assigned areas, including but not limited to food preparation, storage, cooking equipment, floors, refrigerators, freezers, meat cases, and other equipment.
4. Maintains accurate and timely inventory and quality data, including checking in new stock, recording inventory usage and spoilage, scrap or waste, and temperature logs.
5. Assists in maintaining store areas, equipment, and general inventory as needed. Remove trash, handle bottle returns, sweep and mop floors, snow removal and ice mitigation, complete customer transactions when necessary and as trained.
6. Perform all work on-site at assigned store location.
7. Follows company policies and procedures. Complete training within established deadlines.
8. Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

1. Work is performed in a convenience store deli environment, and may also be performed outdoors on occasion. Work will also be performed inside walk-in coolers.
2. Frequent manual hand and finger dexterity work.
3. Lift up to approximately 50 pounds, stoop, bend, reach, and continuously walk or remain in a standing position for extended periods.
4. Occasionally ascend and descend a five-foot step ladder.
5. Reading alpha-numeric data on cash registers, electronic devices and documents.
