Job summary

RedSky seeks an experienced Declassification Analyst to review and classify archival materials for DISA records at the National Archives. You will determine declassification eligibility under EO 13526 and DoD guidelines, working with archivists, records managers, and SMEs to protect sensitive national security information.

Responsibilities include line-by-line reviews, annotations, referrals for external review when needed, and using archival systems to track actions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 2+ years' related experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of EO 13526 and federal classification/declassification processes.
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily technical document reviews of archival materials for national security sensitivities.
  • Line-by-line reviews and annotation to identify Agency program information and review topics.
  • Recognize equities belonging to other agencies and refer for external review as needed.
  • Use electronic records management systems to track review activity and dispositions.
  • Provide recommendations to improve declassification efficiency and accuracy.
  • Maintain HRRDR training and ensure certification requirements are met.

Job description

RedSky is seeking an experienced Declassification Analyst provides critical records review, classification analysis, and declassification support services for Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) records maintained at the National Archives. The primary function of this role is to evaluate classified government records and precisely determine their eligibility for declassification in strict accordance with Executive Order 13526, Department of Defense (DoD) guidance, and agency-specific policies.

The successful candidate will collaborate directly with archivists, records managers, and subject matter experts to aggressively identify and protect sensitive national security information while securely facilitating public access to historical government records.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform independent, daily technical document reviews of archival materials, analyzing textual, electronic, audiovisual, and special media records for national security sensitivities.
  • Conduct rigorous, line-by-line reviews of documents, actively recognize Defense Information Systems Agency Program information, and annotate records accordingly with all appropriate review topics.
  • Identify and accurately recognize equities belonging to other federal agencies, ensuring proper and secure referrals of those documents for external agency review.
  • Utilize advanced electronic records management and archival systems to accurately track all review activities and final document dispositions.
  • Proactively provide expert recommendations for process improvements to enhance both the efficiency and accuracy of declassification operations.
  • Attain and maintain specialized training regarding E.O. 13526 requirements, information bracketing, and standard operating procedures, including mandatory certification by the Department of Energy as a Historical Records Restricted Data Reviewer (HRRDR).
Education And Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years of related experience (equivalent experience or additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree).
  • Deep working knowledge of Executive Order 13526 and the complex federal classification and declassification processes.
  • Proven capacity for independent work, demonstrating strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills while successfully managing multiple project deadlines.
Required Skills
  • Thorough, expert-level understanding of national security classification principles and information protection requirements.
  • Ability to accurately determine if a specific document or piece of material contains classified information or Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).
  • Solid fundamental proficiency in relevant program applications, including Microsoft Office Products, Excel, BlueBeam, and SharePoint.
  • Physical ability to continuously read paper documents and effectively utilize a computer terminal for a minimum of 8 hours per day.
Education And Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years of related experience (equivalent experience or additional years of experience may be substituted for the education requirement).
  • Working knowledge of Executive Order 13526, the federal classification/declassification process, the Freedom of Information Act, and the Privacy Act.
  • Proven experience conducting detailed document review and analysis backed by strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to work independently while seamlessly managing multiple projects and deadlines.
