Qualifications

  • Must hold HRRDR Certification.
  • Strong computer skills including navigating secure databases and redaction software.
  • Experience with the Records Management Database System (RMDB).

Responsibilities

  • Identify and tag documents containing Restricted Data (RD) and Formerly Restricted Data (FRD).
  • Implement classification marking decisions based on DoD directives.
  • Input metadata, review statuses, and redaction notes into secure databases.
  • Collaborate with SMEs to support requests from DISA.
  • Improve digital declassification workflows and provide IT feedback on software functionality.
  • Manage inventories of classified material and maintain control registers.
  • Provide formal status reports with metrics and milestones.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Status: Regular, Full-Time

Position Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly clearedDeclassification Analystto support our team at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in College Park and Fort Meade, MD. Operating under a government contract, this position plays a critical role in safeguarding National Security Information while promoting public transparency. You will leverage federal electronic records systems to conduct detailed reviews of classified documents, applying historical and technical knowledge to identify agency equities and Restricted Data.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate historical records against strict classification/declassification guides to determine if information can be downgraded or fully declassified.
  • Identify, mark, and tab documents containing Restricted Data (RD) and Formerly Restricted Data (FRD).
  • Implement complex classification marking decision based on DoD directives
  • Input metadata, review statuses, and redaction notes into NARA’s secure electronic declassification processing databases.
  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to provide support for all requests from the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA)
  • Support continuous improvement of digital declassification workflows, providing feedback to IT support teams on software functionality and database efficiency.
  • Manage semi-annual and annual classified material inventories, regulates classified holdings, and manages key control registers
  • Provide formal status reports containing multiple metrics and milestones
Qualifications:
  • Must possess an active Top Secret (TS) clearance or Department of Energy (DOE) Q Clearance.
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, analyze, and comprehend complex historical, technical, or military documents.
  • Familiarity with Executive Order 13526, FOIA & Provacy Act,and the Kyl-Lott Amendment.
  • Must possess the Historical Records Restricted Data Reviewer (HRRDR) Certification
  • Strong computer skills, including experience navigating secure databases and utilizing digital redaction software.
  • Experience with the Records Management Database System (RMDB)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience working directly within NARA or a federal declassification center.
  • Subject matter expertise in Cold War history, nuclear weapons technology, naval nuclear propulsion, or intelligence operations.
Working Environment & Conditions

This position is indoors, and will routinely work in temperature controlled environments, having both cold storage (35-40 degrees Fahrenheit) and cool storage (60 degrees Fahrenheit) . The incumbent is required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The workload may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time. The incumbent must be able to read, do simple math calculations and withstand moderate amounts of stress. The incumbent must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
