Best Pump and Flow is seeking a skilled machinist to set up, operate, and tend grinding and related tools for precision surface finishing. You will read blueprints, select tooling, and ensure parts meet specifications through careful measurement and adjustment.

The role requires the ability to work independently or as part of a team, with strong attention to detail, physical stamina, and the capacity to lift up to 50 lbs. Typical schedule is full-time with steady hours in a manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

  • Vocational training or related course work preferred.
  • Experience with machining tools and production processes is advantageous.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, tolerances, and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of quality control and process improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate grinding and related tools to remove excess material.
  • Inspect finished work pieces using gauges or micrometers to ensure spec conformance.
  • Position and secure work pieces with clamps on machine tables or chucks.
  • Adjust machine controls to product specifications and tool requirements.
  • Measure and lay out work using precision measuring devices.
  • Study blueprints and machining instructions to determine sequences and tooling.
  • Mount tools in chucks or spindles and set up equipment for operation.
  • Operate machines to grind, lap, or polish work pieces per specs.
  • Perform additional duties as needed.

Job description

Set up, operate, or tend grinding and related tools that remove excess material or burrs from surfaces, sharpen edges or corners, or buff, hone, or polish metal or plastic work pieces.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Inspect or measure finished work pieces to determine conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as gauges or micrometers.
  • Lift and position work pieces, manually or with hoists, and secure them in hoppers or on machine tables, faceplates, or chucks, using clamps.
  • Set up, operate, or tend grinding and related tools that remove excess material or burrs from surfaces, sharpen edges or corners, or buff, hone, or polish metal or plastic work pieces.
  • Set and adjust machine controls according to product specifications, utilizing knowledge of machine operation.
  • Measure work pieces and lay out work, using precision measuring devices.
  • Select tools to be used, utilizing knowledge of production requirements.
  • Study blueprints, work orders, or machining instructions to determine product specifications, tool requirements, and operational sequences.
  • Mount and position tools in machine chucks, spindles, or other tool holding devices, using hand tools.
  • Activate machine start-up switches to grind, lap, hone, debar, shear, or cut work pieces, according to specifications.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications (or Educational and Other Requirements)
  • Vocational training or job-related course work is preferred.
  • Previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Sensitive to confidential information.
  • Must work independently and as a member of team.
Mental and Physical Requirements:
  • Able to read, speak and write English.
  • Strong physical and mental health to maintain demanding workload.
  • Able to work under stressful conditions at times.
  • Communication – verbal and written communication.
  • Climbing - able to go up and down stairs
  • Able to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Position will require a minimum of 40 hours per week dependent on workload.
  • Using relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
  • Develops specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.
  • Uses computers and computer systems to set up functions, enter data, or process information.
  • Develops constructive and cooperative working relationships and maintaining them over time.
  • Dependable, reliable, fulfills responsibilities.
