Job summary

Reading School District in Reading, PA seeks a Dean of Students to support student achievement by assisting teachers and administrators with behavior management, fostering a positive school climate, and upholding district policies.

This 10-month, full-time role reports to the Principal and requires strong communication, equity focus, and collaboration with families, staff, and community partners to address behavioral and disciplinary concerns.

Qualifications

• Cultural sensitivity and equity commitment is essential.
• Experience in urban environments and with many ELL students is strongly preferred.
• Strong verbal, written, and overall communication skills are required.
• Proven planning, organizational, and project management skills are important.
• Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; able to learn new technology quickly.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate a schoolwide behavior management system to teach responsible thinking and mutual respect.
• Establish professional rapport with students, parents, and staff based on mutual respect and cultural responsiveness.
• Assist in development and administration of disciplinary procedures in line with district policy and state law; respond to concerns and maintain records of disciplinary actions.
• Collaborate with faculty to enforce school rules and student code of conduct.
• Oversee distribution and orientation of the student handbook and code of conduct to ensure awareness of policies.
• Provide documentation and suggestions regarding serious disciplinary infractions and outcomes.
• Use behavioral data to address students' needs in collaboration with administration and staff.
• Assist in compiling data for state, federal, and foundation reports and grants.
• Participate in trainings, in-service programs, and meetings.
• Adhere to laws, policies, and contractual obligations in areas of responsibility.
