Job summary

GreenMark Equipment, a premier John Deere dealership, seeks a Service Writer in Kent City, MI. You will assist the service manager in maintaining accurate reports, answer customer inquiries about service work, and generate repair quotes. You will prepare and manage work orders to ensure technicians have work ready and tracked to completion.

Qualifications

• Experience in a service department is required.
• Familiarity with basic accounting practices.
• Proficiency with common computer software and data entry.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team.
• Strong communication skills with customers and colleagues.
• Education: high school diploma or equivalent; associates preferred.

Responsibilities

• Answer service department inquiries from customers and internal teams.
• Open and track work orders; ensure they are closed and invoiced.
• Maintain service department records and manuals.
• Update customer profiles with service data.
• Prepare replacement parts orders and service supplies.
• Assist in preparing technician labor and efficiency reports.
• Process warranty or product improvement claims when needed.
• Participate in ongoing training to improve skills.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
• Know and follow safety rules and John Deere product knowledge.

Purpose

Assists the service manager in maintaining accurate and on-time reports and records relative to the service departments operation within the dealership. Answers customer inquiries about service work and generates repair quotes. Prepares and manages work orders to ensure technicians have work in front of them.

Responsibilities

• Fields internal and external customer inquiries to the Service Department
• Opens work orders as directed by the Service Manager/Shop Foreman and maintains control until they are closed and invoiced
• Maintains service department filings and records and service library with current information (for example, files bulletins, manuals, multi-media, etc.) under the direct supervision of the Service Manager
• Updates customer profiles using equipment, hours, or other information from the customer work order
• Maintains service accessories and supplies and prepares replacement orders
• May prepare Service Technician labor performance, productivity, and efficiency reports
• May process warranty and/or product improvement claims including the computation of charges, submission and follow-up
• May participate in Service EDUCATE Training programs required for the development of skills and knowledge
• Maintains a clean work area and performs work in a neat and orderly fashion
• Follows all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments
• Maintains knowledge of John Deere and competitive products
