Job summary

Antelope Valley College is seeking a Coordinator, Deaf Services (Categorically Funded) to recruit and train classroom interpreters, assign work, and coordinate services for deaf students and campus staff under the Director of the Office of Students with Disabilities.

Responsibilities include providing interpreting services, scheduling interpreters, tracking timesheets, evaluating candidates, conducting trainings, and maintaining the Interpreting Handbook.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Deaf Studies, Interpreter Training, education, or related field with current certification.
• Two years increasingly responsible office or program coordination experience may substitute for one year of college.

Responsibilities

• Provide sign language and interpreting services for deaf students and staff.
• Send notetaker requests and orientation flyers to instructors.
• Assign interpreters; prepare schedules; review timesheets and maintain tracking logs.
• Coordinate interpreter evaluations and recruit candidates for evaluation.
• Coordinate training; conduct workshops and maintain the Interpreting Handbook.
• Maintain current knowledge of interpreting field developments and ethics.
• Perform interpreting (ASL/CASE/oral) and sign-to-voice or sim-com as appropriate.
• Interpret at events, field trips, conferences, and cocurricular activities.
• Provide platform interpreting at college-sponsored events; offer training and mentoring to interpreters.
• Meet with deaf students to discuss service quality and resolve conflicts.
• Provide walk-in deaf services and substitute interpreting when needed.

Education

Associate's degree in Deaf Studies / Interpreter Training or related field
