Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Deaf Services unit is hiring a Deaf Services Specialist to lead community development, advocacy, public outreach and training at the Asheville Regional Center.

The role requires fluency in ASL and Deaf Culture, the ability to educate consumers on rights and laws, and to provide resources, presentations, and outreach to families and Deaf/DeafBlind individuals across 14 counties.

Qualifications

• Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf Culture.
• Ability to explain rights and applicable laws to consumers.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry.
• Experience coordinating community outreach and trainings.
• Strong collaboration and team-work skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead community development, advocacy, public outreach and training at the Asheville Regional Center.
• Provide outreach to Deaf and DeafBlind communities across 14 counties.
• Plan and execute events, trainings, and presentations.
• Identify resources for consumers and educate them on their rights and laws.
• Enter data accurately and maintain records in the data system.
