Job summary

Ampersand Therapy is seeking a part-time Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher for a school-based role in Ashland, VA. You will provide direct instructional services and collaborate with staff to support students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, guiding their academic progress and communication growth.

The role offers 0.8 FTE or higher in a school setting with benefits eligibility, liability insurance, and a pathway to licensure reimbursement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or related field.
• Valid Virginia state teaching certification and endorsement in Deaf/Hard of Hearing (or eligibility for certification).
• Knowledge of hearing impairments, language development, and instructional strategies.
• Experience working with students with hearing loss in a school setting preferred, not required.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and consultative instructional services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
• Develop and implement IEPs in compliance with federal and state regulations.
• Conduct assessments and use data to guide instructional decisions.
• Support development of communication skills, including spoken language, sign language, and/or total communication approaches.
• Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curriculum and instructional strategies.
• Work with related service providers (e.g., audiologists, speech-language pathologists).
• Provide training and support to staff regarding hearing loss and classroom accommodations.
• Monitor and maintain assistive listening devices and hearing technology.
• Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress.
• Maintain accurate documentation and compliance with IDEA and district policies.
