Job summary

The American School for the Deaf in W. Hartford, CT seeks a dedicated Special Education Teacher to instruct Deaf and Hard of Hearing students using an ASL/English bilingual approach. This ten-month, benefits-eligible position at the school's main campus requires full-time commitment.

You will design and deliver specially designed instruction, develop IEPs, manage behavior, prepare reports, and collaborate with the team to support student growth across core subjects.

Qualifications

• Masters degree in Education of the Deaf or Special Education is preferred.
• CT teacher certification (057/065) preferred.
• Ability or willingness to learn ASL; ASLPI rated preferred.

Responsibilities

• Instruct Deaf and Hard of Hearing students under supervision.
• Provide specially designed instruction and teach various subjects.
• Prepare materials, lesson plans, and reports as needed.
• Develop and implement IEPs; participate in PPT and team meetings.
• Evaluate student performance with evidence-based assessments.
• Implement behavior intervention plans and manage classroom behavior.
• Direct work of aides and/or residential staff in the classroom.
• Instruct using an ASL/English bilingual approach.
