Job summary

The American School for the Deaf (ASD) in West Hartford, CT, seeks a dedicated Teacher of the Deaf to join our Education department. This 10-month, benefits-eligible position requires delivering ASL/English bilingual instruction to Deaf and hard of hearing students with a focus on individualized learning plans.

Candidates should hold a Master’s in the Education of the Deaf or Special Education and CT teaching certification is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Education of the Deaf or Special Education is required.
  • CT State Teacher Certification (057 and/or 065) preferred.
  • Experience developing and implementing IEPs and participating in PPT/team meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct Deaf and Hard of Hearing students under supervision of the principal.
  • Develop and implement specially designed instruction and lesson plans.
  • Prepare reports and documentation including progress reports and report cards.
  • Collaborate in IEP development and PPT/team meetings.
  • Direct the work of Teacher Aides and/or Residential Counselors in the classroom.
