Job summary

ESC of Lake Erie West in Toledo, Ohio seeks a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing to provide educational support and consultation to deaf and hard-of-hearing students, collaborating with district personnel and classroom teachers to meet IEP goals.

The role requires licensure as an Intervention Specialist (or relevant certification) and a Hearing Handicapped endorsement, with duties spanning direct instruction, assessment interpretation, and resource support for staff and families.

Qualifications

• Education credential required: Ohio State Board of Education license as an Intervention Specialist or equivalent for K-12 education.
• Endorsement in Hearing Handicapped or Hearing Impaired required or as applicable to the position.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate student needs and select appropriate screening/assessment tools.
• Interpret assessment findings to teachers, students and parents.
• Provide consultation to teachers, parents, and staff regarding deaf/hard-of-hearing student needs.
• Support students and staff using assistive devices and services.
• Accommodate diverse communication styles (auditory/oral, ASL, sign-supported).</br>
• Support instructional assistants, interpreters, captionists and note takers.
• Collaborate with IEP/ETR teams to plan instructional/behavioral strategies for deaf/hard-of-hearing students.
• Assist in adapting the educational environment to meet student needs and provide resources for teachers.
• Maintain student records and reports related to services provided.
• Develop communication and self-advocacy skills in Deaf/Hard of Hearing students.
