Job summary

ESC of Lake Erie West in Toledo, Ohio is seeking a part-time Teacher Visually Impaired to support blind/vision impaired students. The role combines direct instruction and consultation with classroom staff, aligned to IEP goals, across multiple settings.

The teacher will provide Braille reading/writing instruction, low-vision device training, and specialized support for students’ educational development. Immediate start date and ongoing district collaboration are emphasized.

Qualifications

• Ohio Department of Education license as an Intervention Specialist or certificate/license for Education of the Handicapped K-12
• Vision Handicapped or Vision Impaired endorsement

Responsibilities

• Evaluate student needs using nondiscriminatory screening tools.
• Interpret assessment data for teachers, students and parents.
• Provide consultation to children, parents, teachers, and administrators regarding the needs of students who are blind/vision impaired.
• Provide technology support to students and personnel using assistive devices.
• Provide direct instruction in Braille reading and writing.
• Provide direct instruction in use of low vision devices and adaptive devices.
• Participate in IEP/ETR meetings for students served; coordinate planning for instructional and behavioral strategies with the IEP team.
• Assist in modifications of the educational environment for students who are blind/vision impaired.
• Provide in-services to school personnel and community members regarding needs of blind/vision impaired students.
• Maintain accurate student records and reports; submit required documentation.
