Job summary

Northwest Regional Education Service District is seeking an ASL Instructional Assistant 1:1 for Hillsboro School District to support deaf students and reinforce sign language development.

Under the Teacher of the Deaf or classroom teacher, you will assist with instructional activities, collaborate with staff, and help foster Deaf culture awareness while maintaining high accuracy and organization. This is a 0.875 FTE, 190-day position with a classified salary schedule.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent. College experience is preferred.
• ASL fluent expressively and receptively.
• Knowledge of Deaf culture.
• Proficiency with reading and writing English.
• Knowledge of tutorial/instructional procedures is preferred.
• Experience working with children is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist families and students in the development of sign language skills.
• Under supervision, support deaf students and sign-language users.
• Assist deaf and hearing students in learning about Deaf culture.
• Collaborate with building staff to integrate Deaf students into the school community.
• Participate in trainings to improve knowledge and skills.
• Facilitate communication between students and school staff as needed.
• Reinforce instruction, prepare materials, and record student progress.
• Work collaboratively with staff at all levels.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
