Job summary

Mesquite ISD seeks a Deaf Education Assistant for ECSE (Florence). The role supports a Deaf/Hard of Hearing student program under the supervision of a certified teacher. Duties include material preparation, student supervision, and records support.

The position requires a high school diploma and strong collaboration, communication, and ASL familiarity. Experience with Deaf students is preferred; hours are full-time with attentive daily responsibilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience with Deaf/Hard of Hearing students preferred.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Good communication skills and teamwork ability.
• Familiarity with office equipment and filing systems.
• Knowledge of the Deaf Community and ASL is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Assist Deaf education teacher in instructional activities.
• Support students with physical, medical, and emotional needs.
• Help prepare instructional materials and displays.
• Maintain classroom records and assist with reports.
• Assist with student transfers and personal care as needed.
• Support behavior management under supervision.
• Work with individuals or small groups on motor skills and exercises.
• Inform teacher of any student needs or problems.
• Assist assessment staff with tests and evaluations.
• Supervise students during meals, bus, and recess.
• Help substitute teachers and maintain confidentiality.
• Participate in staff development and meetings as required.
