Job summary

Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children in Pittsburgh seeks an intervener to support a student with deaf-blindness during the school day, aligning with the IEP and using specially designed instruction. The role includes data collection, facilitating access to environmental information, and creating customized instructional materials.

You will participate in IEP meetings, coordinate with home and school, and promote inclusive practices while using and maintaining hearing and vision

Qualifications

• Requires ability to implement specially designed instruction and IEP goals.
• Ability to develop student-specific instructional materials.
• Willingness to participate in ongoing training in deaf-blindness.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct support to a student with deaf-blindness during all or part of a school day as specified in the IEP.
• Follow the student’s IEP, including implementation of specially designed instruction and IEP goals; take data as directed by staff.
• Develop proficiency in the student’s communication methods and apply strategies to connect with others in the school environment.
• Create student-specific instructional materials as needed.
• Accompany and support the student during community-based instruction; assist with access to environmental information.
• Maintain approved communication between home and school and keep a daily log of the student’s activities.
• Participate in IEP and team meetings; assist in assessments, progress reports, and data collection for program monitoring.
• Complete required OHOA modules and engage in professional development related to deaf-blindness.
• Maintain and use hearing and visual aids as directed; support use of devices and ensure their care.
• Serve as a resource to staff on deaf-blindness and inclusive practices.
