Job summary

Denver Public Schools seeks a Deaf-Blind Intervener to provide direct, 1:1 support for a student with deaf-blindness as part of an instructional team. You will follow the IEP, facilitate communication, and help the student access instructional information through tailored strategies.

Your role involves collaborating with teachers, therapists, and support staff to create a safe learning environment and foster social engagement within the school day.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Training for interveners through State/District program preferred.
  • Experience with hearing/visual impairments, deaf-blindness, or multiple disabilities is highly preferred.
  • Basic Sign Language skills are highly preferred.
  • Working toward credentialed Intervener credentials preferred.
  • Strong integrity with confidential information.
  • Ability to collaborate on a team.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines and manage priorities.
  • Comfortable with close physical proximity to tactile learners.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, 1:1 support to a student with deaf-blindness as part of an educational team, following the IEP.
  • Become proficient in the student’s communication methods and strategies.
  • Facilitate access to and use of receptive and expressive communication.
  • Model and explain the student’s communication system to others.
  • Perform lunch/recess/bus duties including supervision.
  • Assist with health and personal care duties as directed by staff.
  • Provide specially designed instruction under the teacher’s direction.
  • Support development of social connections and emotional well-being.
  • Assist in preparing materials and IEPs, adapting curriculum as needed.
  • Attend planning/feedback meetings and support classroom teachers.
