Job summary

WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA SCHOOL FOR BLIND CHILDREN seeks a dedicated intervener to support a student with deaf-blindness during the school day, aligning with the IEP and implementing specially designed instruction. You will aid communication access and assist with instructional, social, and community activities.

Responsibilities include data collection, home-school communication, and supporting assistive devices. Active participation in IEP meetings and ongoing professional development are required.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree or credential of competency completed.
• Experience with and/or desire to work with students with dual sensory impairments.
• Willingness to participate in ongoing training in the area of deafblindness.
• Capability and willingness to obtain clearances for Acts 34, 114, 151 prior to hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct support to a student with deaf-blindness during all or part of the school day per IEP.
• Follow IEP; implement specially designed instruction and goals; collect data as directed.
• Become proficient in the student’s communication methods and connect with others in the school.
• Create student-specific instructional materials as needed.
• Accompany and support the student during community-based instruction as needed.
• Facilitate access to environmental information for the student.
• Maintain communication between home and school and log daily activities.
• Participate in IEP and Team meetings; assist in progress reports and data collection.
• Complete required modules and professional development related to deaf-blindness.
• Maintain and use hearing and visual aids as directed.
