Job summary

At Home is seeking a Yard Driver to safely move trailers within the distribution center yard, ensuring timely dock door placement and efficient yard flow. You will perform trailer movements using a yard truck and coordinate with Operations to prioritize workloads in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred candidates have a high school diploma, are comfortable learning yard equipment, and can read and communicate in English. Outdoor work in variable weather and adherence to safety is required.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The Yard Driver is responsible for safely moving trailers within the distribution center yard to support inbound and outbound operations. This role ensures trailers are positioned at dock doors on time, yard flow is maintained efficiently, and all movements are completed in accordance with safety and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Move trailers to and from dock doors, staging areas, and parking locations using a yard truck
• Perform trailer spotting to support loading and unloading schedules
• Maintain organized and efficient yard flow to prevent delays in operations
• Perform additional duties as needed to support business operations and fluctuations in workload. This may include maintaining yard organization and cleanliness and, when trained and authorized, assisting with distribution center operations, including operating powered equipment.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all safety procedures, traffic patterns, and yard protocols
• Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of yard equipment and trailers
• Report equipment issues, damage, or safety concerns immediately
• Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements

Communication and Coordination

• Communicate with Operations, Receiving, Shipping, and Transportation teams regarding trailer needs
• Respond to radio or system requests for trailer movement in a timely manner
• Support prioritization of workload based on operational demands

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Ability to operate or willingness to learn yard truck equipment
• Basic communication skills (verbal and/or radio use)
• Must be able to read, write and communicate in English
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities

Preferred

• Previous experience in a distribution center, warehouse, or transportation environment
• Experience operating yard trucks, hostlers, or similar equipment

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment
• Ability to climb in and out of yard trucks frequently
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Ability to lift up to [50 lbs] as needed

Work Environment

• Outdoor yard environment with exposure to weather conditions
• Fast-paced distribution center setting
• Frequent interaction with moving equipment and vehicles
