Job summary

Actalent in Washington, DC, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with extensive hands-on experience in mechanical systems and product development. You will perform full lifecycle engineering from concept to sustainment, working with cross-functional teams on complex communications hardware.

You will design, prototype, test, and document robust mechanical solutions, while coordinating with suppliers and manufacturing to ensure producible designs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering, or related field.
• 5–10+ years of proven experience in mechanical design and product development.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks 3D CAD/CAM software; experience with technical drawings and design analyses.
• Hands-on fabrication, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of complex mechanical systems.
• Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical and electromechanical systems for advanced communication systems.
• Analyze requirements and translate them into detailed design specifications.
• Create 3D CAD models, drawings, and manufacturing docs.
• Perform tolerance analysis, material selection, and DFM assessments.
• Develop test plans and evaluate prototypes to confirm design intent.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, suppliers, and engineers to implement hardware.
