Job summary

UChicago Medicine is seeking a Lactation Consultant (Registry) to join the Labor and Delivery team on a 0.30 FTE, day shift schedule, onsite at our hospital.

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support breastfeeding moms and babies, consult with physicians and nurses, and help establish care plans for lactation. The role emphasizes policy development, quality improvement, and collaboration with OB/Ped leadership.

Qualifications

• Active RN licensure in Illinois.
• BSN is required; MSN is preferred.
• Three years of clinical nursing experience in pediatric or obstetrics in a tertiary or large center.
• One or more years of Lactation Consultant experience.
• IBCLC certification or eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Consult with physicians, pharmacists, and the care team to support breastfeeding mothers and babies.
• Act as Lactation Consultant in your areas of expertise with the mother, primary nurse, and physician.
• Assist the primary nurse to formulate a nursing care plan for establishing lactation.
• Collaborate with health care team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate lactation issues and treatments.
• Develop, evaluate, and revise policies related to lactation and breastfeeding.
• Monitor hospital practices that affect lactation and breastfeeding.
• Respond to lactation information requests from outside the medical center when possible.
• Participate in evaluation and management of products related to lactation and breastfeeding.
• Collaborate with OB/Ped leadership in program development.
