Job summary

Barnes & Thornburg LLP in Indianapolis seeks a Payroll Specialist under the Senior Payroll Manager to handle payroll processing, maintain confidentiality, and support attorneys, staff and vendors while adhering to firm policies.

You will manage semi‑monthly salary payroll and bi‑weekly hourly payroll in Dayforce, generate reports, coordinate with accounts, oversee HSA/FSA programs, and contribute to procedural improvements and training.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of payroll processes and laws.
• 1–2 years of payroll experience required.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience with Dayforce is preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

• Solves payroll problems, answers inquiries, and enforces policies.
• Manages Payroll Services inbox; coordinates inquiries and tasks.
• Leads semi-monthly salary payroll with Dayforce: maintenance, adjustments, reimbursements, GL posting.
• Leads bi-weekly hourly payroll with Dayforce: timecards, overtime, reimbursements, GL posting; prints/shares reports; distributes checks.
• Compiles reports and administers HSA/FSA, transit, charitable donation programs; uploads feeds.
• Performs monthly accounting functions and ad hoc reports; follows up on stale checks.
• Participates in training to stay current on payroll regulations and software.
• Suggests improvements to payroll procedures and keeps them current.
• Cross trains to ensure continuity and provide backup support.
• Other duties as assigned.
