Job summary

The City of Harrisonburg Public Transportation Department seeks a Transit Supervisor (Day Shift) to lead a team and improve local transit service. This full-time, non-exempt role includes benefits and a hiring range of $26.67–$29.34 per hour, equivalent to $55,473–$61,027 annually depending on qualifications and city policy.

The role involves supervising bus operators, planning and scheduling services, assisting the Transit Superintendent, and operating a transit or paratransit bus as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and 1–3 years experience operating buses and in customer service.
• Valid driver's license required at time of application; ability to obtain CDL by end of training.
• Availability to work Mondays - Fridays from 6:00am - 3:00pm.
• Thorough knowledge of safe operation of transit and paratransit buses; geography of service area; area traffic laws; paratransit operations and dispatch.
• General knowledge of modern personnel practices and DOT/FTA requirements; ability to communicate about bus mechanics.
• Ability to plan and schedule rotating staff; supervise transit operators; maintain records; train operators; stay calm under pressure; communicate clearly; build relationships.

Responsibilities

• Supervise transit operators and assist in operation of the Transit division.
• Plan and schedule transportation services.
• Operate a transit and paratransit bus as needed and train others.
• Assist the Transit Superintendent and promote safety and teamwork in operations.
