Job summary

City of Harrisonburg seeks Transit Bus Operator positions to combine customer service with driving responsibilities. The City plans to fill both full-time (benefits-eligible) and part-time (no benefits) roles, with a preferred hiring rate of $19.54 per hour.

Paid on-the-job training is provided; prior bus experience is not required at hire. A valid driver's license is required at application, and CDL may be needed by the end of training for this position.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus experience operating buses or similar equipment.
• Valid driver's license required at application; CDL by end of training or as deemed appropriate.
• Full-Time: 5 days per week Mon-Sat; Part-Time: minimum 18 hours weekly.

Responsibilities

• Drive a transit bus.
• Pick up and deliver passengers.
• Collect fares.
• Operate a bus on a designated route for a daily schedule.
• Operate a two-way radio and report unusual traffic conditions or emergencies.
• Operate mobility device lift and secure mobility devices.
• Observe traffic laws and safety regulations for passenger safety.
