Job summary

The Iowa City VA Medical Center is seeking an Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse (RN) to plan, direct, and coordinate perioperative care for patients undergoing surgery.

The RN will function as both circulator and scrub nurse across specialties, ensuring sterility, patient safety, and precise documentation in the electronic health record, while collaborating with the surgical team to deliver high-quality care.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the United States.
• Graduate of a nursing program with ACEN/CCNE accreditation per VA standards.
• State license with potential bridge program paths if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Provides perioperative nursing care for patients undergoing surgical and invasive procedures.
• Plans, directs, and coordinates perioperative nursing care with the surgical team.
• Functions as circulator and scrub nurse across all surgical specialties.
• Maintains sterility and ensures patient safety; participates in Time Out and instrument counts.
• Completes comprehensive perioperative documentation in the EHR.
