Job summary

The Veterans Health Administration in East Orange, NJ seeks a Perioperative Registered Nurse to join the OR team at the VA Medical Center. The RN will plan, direct, and coordinate care for patients undergoing surgical procedures, working across circulator and scrub roles and adhering to AORN standards and VA SOPs.

This full-time position requires English proficiency, a nursing degree, and an active US nursing license, with a strong focus on patient safety, documentation, and teamwork.

Qualifications

• English language proficiency is required.
• Graduate of a nursing program approved by accrediting bodies (ACEN/CCNE) or equivalent.
• State RN license required or eligible for licensure.
• GNT exception available for licensure pursuit with temporary appointment.
• Foreign nursing education must meet VA equivalency requirements.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and coordinate care for patients undergoing operative procedures.
• Perform circulator and scrub duties across surgical specialties.
• Maintain sterile technique and ensure patient safety and instrument readiness.
• Document care accurately in the electronic health record.
• Be on-call during off-tour hours to provide patient care as needed.
