Job summary

Indiana University Health System seeks a patient care assistant/unit secretary to join the department. You will provide direct patient care under the direction of a Clinical Nurse, and support the patient care team.

You will perform unit clerical duties, schedule tests, maintain patient records, handle equipment and supplies, and help with safety procedures including suicide prevention, in a clean and orderly environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CPR/BLS certification or completion of BLS during the program.
• Experience in acute patient care or completion of IU Health PCA program.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Basic computer skills and infection control knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under the direction of a Clinical Nurse.
• Perform unit clerical duties and maintain patient records.
• Schedule tests and procedures and sign patients in and out.
• Order, receive and deliver equipment and supplies for the unit.
• Provide information and assistance to physicians, patients, families, customers and vendors.
• Ensure a clean and orderly environment; include suicide prevention as required.
