Job summary

MercyOne is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team for a full-time, day shift in a clinical setting in Iowa. You will support a wide range of patient care activities, document interactions in the EMR, and assist with exams and procedures under provider supervision.

Ideal candidates have completed an accredited MA program, hold CMA/RMA or be prepared to obtain certification within a year, and possess BLS. Strong teamwork and adherence to safety protocols are essential.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of a CAAHP- or ABHES-accredited medical assistant program.
• CMA or RMA certification must be obtained within the first year of employment.
• Clinic/physician office experience preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or obtained within 3 months.
• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training within 3 months.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates ability to recognize urgent/emergent patient needs and initiate emergency procedures.
• Follows clinic procedures for EMR management, including test results and charting.
• Facilitates interdisciplinary communication and assesses patient data with the care team.
• Evaluates patient understanding of treatment plans and instructions.
• Assists with procedures and operates diagnostic equipment as assigned.
• Maintains aseptic technique for procedures and medications.
• Documents all patient interactions accurately in the EMR.
• Reports results to patients and health care team members.
• Performs basic MA tasks (vitals, rooming, injections) under supervision.
• Keeps patient exam and procedure rooms professionally maintained.
• Cross-coverage in other clinic areas as needed; participates in maintenance and improvement activities.
