Job summary

The Merrimack Valley YMCA Andover Branch is seeking a Lifeguard I for day shifts to maintain a safe swimming environment for members and program participants in Andover, MA. You will monitor pool and deck areas and enforce rules with a professional approach.

Requirements include being at least 16 years old and holding current YMCA/ARC Lifeguard certification, ARC First Aid & CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED and Oxygen, plus passing the facility Lifeguard test.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Must hold current YMCA/American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent.
• Must hold current American Red Cross First Aid & CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED and Oxygen, or equivalent.
• Must successfully complete the Lifeguard test.
• Must maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.

Responsibilities

• Remain flexible to accommodate registration, departmental, and branch events.
• Keep safety as a first priority and monitor water and pool deck areas.
• Enforce pool rules in a courteous and fair manner.
• Respond quickly and decisively to emergencies following YMCA procedures.
• Administer First Aid and CPR as required and document appropriately.
• Take and record chemical readings as scheduled.
• Assist with pool setup and equipment handling for the next shift.
