Job summary

Minnehaha County in Sioux Falls, SD is seeking an HVAC Technician to join the facilities team. You will maintain and repair systems across multiple buildings, troubleshoot & learn continuously on boilers, chillers, and controls, while enjoying a steady M-F schedule and local work only.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus four years of work experience in equipment repair, HVAC, electrical, or plumbing.
• Two years vocational school may substitute for two years of experience.
• Valid driver's license and safe driving record required.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
• Must pass pre-employment background and be on a rotating on-call schedule.
• Ability to work in a jail or institutional setting with inmates.

Responsibilities

• Install, troubleshoot, and repair commercial HVAC systems.
• Service and maintain boilers, chillers, rooftop units, air handling units, VAV boxes, pneumatic and DDC controls.
• Diagnose and repair electrical components related to HVAC systems, including motor controls.
• Perform basic plumbing tasks related to HVAC (e.g., soldering copper pipe, replacing valves).
• Read blueprints and technical diagrams; ensure compliance with codes and safety standards.
• Collaborate with a skilled team to support building comfort, efficiency, and system reliability.
