Job summary

Minnehaha County invites applications for an HVAC Technician to join our facilities team, maintaining and repairing systems across buildings in Sioux Falls. You’ll troubleshoot, service, and learn new technology daily in a supportive, quality-driven environment.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED plus four years of related work experience in equipment repair, plumbing, HVAC, or electrical.
Two years of vocational school may substitute for two years of experience.
Technical training and considerable experience with HVAC equipment, electrical, or plumbing.
Possession of a valid driver's license and must maintain a safe driving record with Minnehaha County.
Must successfully complete pre-employment background process.
Knowledge of or experience using computer-aided statistical software and mapping applications.
Considerable knowledge of electrical systems, HVAC, and plumbing installations.
Working knowledge of codes related to plumbing, HVAC, electrical installations, and fixtures.
Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
On-call rotating schedule and availability for after-hours work.
Must remain free from alcohol or drugs per County policy.
Effective verbal and written communication.
Ability to interact professionally with colleagues, other agencies, and the public.
Ability to work in proximity to inmates in a jail or institutional setting.

Responsibilities

Perform skilled installation, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial HVAC systems.
Service and maintain boilers, chillers, rooftop units, air handling units, VAV boxes, pneumatic and DDC controls.
Diagnose and repair electrical components related to HVAC systems, including motor controls and switchgear.
Perform basic plumbing tasks related to HVAC.
Read blueprints and technical diagrams; ensure compliance with codes and safety standards.
Collaborate with a skilled team to support building comfort, efficiency, and system reliability.
