Job summary

The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia Facilities Management Department is seeking Custodians for a 9:00am to 5:30pm shift in the Central Grounds zone in Charlottesville, VA. The role emphasizes safe cleaning practices, teamwork, and reliable attendance.

Typical duties include cleaning offices and classrooms, operating cleaning equipment, removing trash, and maintaining supply inventories. This is a non-exempt on-site position with opportunities to learn and grow within UVA

Qualifications

• No formal education required.

• Ability to operate basic cleaning equipment and follow policies.

Responsibilities

• Clean offices, classrooms, restrooms, and public areas to maintain a neat, safe environment.
• Operate cleaning equipment (auto scrubbers, buffers, burnishers) for more complex tasks.
• Remove trash, clean surfaces, dust, vacuum, mop; prepare cleaning solutions as needed.
• Maintain housekeeping closets and inventory; request supplies as needed.
• Report repairs, pest issues, or violations; assist with light maintenance tasks.
