The University of Virginia Facilities Management Department offers a career that affords growth opportunities for employees within Facilities Management. We are seeking Custodial candidates for a 9:00am - 5:30pm shift in the Central Grounds zone.
Custodians perform exceptional housekeeping services in assigned areas through safe work practices while using proper housekeeping techniques. The position maintains good working relationships with customers, staff, students, and supervisors. The Custodian completes special project work as assigned. They gain increasing efficiency with cleaning techniques, supplies, and equipment.
Basic housekeeping experience, including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning carpets, cleaning bathrooms and removal of trash is preferred. Ability to follow established policies, procedures, and directions, as well as adhere to regulatory guidelines in daily work is required. Ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are also essential. Basic computer, tablet, and/or smart phone usage and the ability to submit electronic timesheets are also required.
Some experience with basic housekeeping duties including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning carpets, cleaning bathrooms and removal of trash in a workplace setting is preferred.
This role requires regular standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, lifting, and carrying, with the ability to safely handle material and equipment weighing 25 pounds, and occasionally as much as 50 pounds. The position also calls for repetitive motion for reoccurring duties such as dusting and mopping, and while working in various indoor and outdoor environments.
