Job summary

The University of Virginia Facilities Management Department is hiring Custodians for early morning shifts in the Housing zone, based in Charlottesville, VA. This non-exempt, benefited role requires maintaining clean offices, classrooms, restrooms and public areas while following safety and policy guidelines.

Responsibilities include operating cleaning equipment, removing trash, and assisting with minor maintenance. Applicants should be able to work as part of a team and meet physical demands.

Qualifications

• Education: none.
• Experience: none.
• Licensure/Certifications: none.
• Some experience with basic housekeeping duties in a workplace setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain offices, classrooms, restrooms, public areas, or other assigned academic areas in clean and orderly conditions.
• Operate cleaning equipment such as auto scrubbers, buffers and burnishers.
• Remove trash, clean bathrooms, wipe surfaces, dust, vacuum, mop, and may mix cleaning solutions.
• Maintain clean and orderly housekeeping closets and equipment and keep inventories of supplies, requesting additional supplies as needed.
• Report repairs and pest control needs, and any housekeeping-related violations by residents, guests, or staff.
• May perform minor maintenance tasks, such as changing lightbulbs.
• Other duties may be assigned.
