Job summary

The University of Virginia Facilities Management Department is seeking a Custodian for a 9:00am–5:30pm shift in the Central Grounds area, Charlottesville, VA. This role emphasizes housekeeping, safety, and excellent service to students and staff in academic spaces.

No prior experience is required, but reliability, teamwork, and the ability to follow directions and use basic technology for timesheets are essential. Candidates may perform light maintenance tasks and support on-site operations.

Qualifications

• Basic housekeeping duties such as dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and bathroom cleaning.
• Ability to follow established policies and safety guidelines.
• Good communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Maintain offices, classrooms, restrooms, and public areas in clean, orderly condition.
• Operate cleaning equipment such as auto scrubbers, buffers, and burnishers.
• Remove trash, clean bathrooms, dust, wipe surfaces, and mop.
• Maintain closets and inventories; request supplies as needed.
• Report repairs and pest control needs.
• May perform minor maintenance like changing lightbulbs.
• Other duties as assigned.
